Trinity Church reaches out to the community in many ways, including opening its facilities for use by community and recovery groups, and giving financial support to local food and shelter programs. A committee coordinates and assists parishioners in finding and carrying out outreach activities. Our church has a strong committment to social justice and caring for the poor, and many individuals carry out their own outreach projects every day.
Some of the programs supported through funds and/or active participation include:
- Education and awareness activities about local social justice and poverty issues.
- Food ministries, including cooking for Ronald McDonald House, the Salvation Army, the Shelburne Food Shelf, and parishioners and friends in need of casseroles, as well as collecting food for the Shelburne Food Shelf and JUMP (Joint Urban Ministry Project).
- The Giving Tree – purchasing, wrapping, and collecting Christmas gifts for those identified by local school counselors as needing gifts.
- Providing volunteers, donations, and representatives to the board of the Shelburne, Charlotte, Hinesburg Interfaith Projects, which makes grants to charitable organizations in the three towns.
- Supporting outreach education/awareness programs involving other cultures and other nations, as well as by responding to the challenge of the Episcopal Church to assist in meeting the UN Millennium Development Goals. To meet this challenge, we give .07% of our budget to these global needs.
